GoFundMe (a company used to assist in charity collections for anyone who chooses to use their service) created 1.4 million nonprofit webpages without the consent or knowledge of those nonprofits by using public IRS data. For their service, GoFundMe (GFM) takes a portion of the donations as high as 19.4% in combined fees and tips.

Update: Per our request, GFM has disabled the page it created in CHES Foundation’s name, putting a halt to any GFM fee collections.

But for now, this message remains as a reminder to us all to be vigilant in financial transfers of any sort. When in doubt, reach out to organizations/individuals directly to verify the authenticity of communications or other suspicious activity.
