The Details:
  • Scheduled June 21-24, 2024
  • Located at Camp Zeke in Pennsylvania in the Poconos foothills
  • The entire immediate family living in the same household are invited
Applicants must have a history of an active inhibitor and fall between the ages of 0-18.  Those who have tolerized within or more than 3 years of the program date will be considered, space allowing. We encourage EVERYONE affected by an inhibitor to register.
After the Shock is a four-day experience designed exclusively for those in the bleeding disorder community who are living with inhibitors. From arrival to departure your day will be filled with fun, adventure, and education - all in a sharing, supportive atmosphere.

How much does it cost to attend?

In the past, there have been no costs associated with attending After the Shock. Travel related expenses including tolls, mileage and parking were reimbursed, and air transportation was arranged for participants. With tighter budgets and stricter industry guidelines, air travel costs for all family members is becoming more difficult to cover.

We are currently working hard to make this program as affordable as possible. The current situation is underfunded and the cost per person for camp averages to $2,100 ($1,400 for air and ground, $700 for meals and lodging)

Would your family consider donating (tax deductible) the purchase price of one airline ticket? This would help us cover travel costs for your family or another family to attend. Think you can help? Please email us directly at info@ches.education or visit https://ches.education/ats-donations

What to Expect and FAQ's

Fly into a designated airport in the late afternoon on Friday. Transportation will be provided from the airport to the camp.  Dinner and fun the first evening as we settle in and get to know each other.

The following two days will consist of educational sessions, that will include topics like The Emotional Effects of Chronic Illness, Landscape of Inhibitor Treatment and Rap Sessions. Through these sessions, we facilitate participant learning and self-confidence, establishment of coping mechanisms, and experience peer-to-peer connections to build strong support systems.

The final morning, we have breakfast, closing meeting and sad, sometimes tearful good-byes as we prepare for departure home.

Who can attend?
Children living with hemophilia and an inhibitor are encouraged to attend with their immediate families (in the same household) if they satisfy the following qualifiers.

  • Are between the ages of 0-18.

  • Lives with an active inhibitor that has not successfully tolerized. Since inhibitors have been known to return, children who have had a successful immune tolerance experience within the past 3 years or less will also be welcomed to attend.  Those who have tolerized for more than three years ago will be welcomed, as space allows.

  • Campers are welcome to attend regardless of treatment product use.
